Having some R&D time this afternoon, finally trying something I've been wanting to try for a long time: hard milling! Here you can see me machining a blade blank from steel that's already fully hardened to 63HRC! The red hot chips coming off the steel are pretty crazy... Hard milling is very new to me but so far everything is looking pretty good! It turns out that testing the spindle motor on a fadal without it attached to the spindle is actually kinda hard! The machine has a hall effect sensor on the top of the spindle itself and if it doesn't see that turn on/off at least every three seconds while the spindle is active it assumes there's a fault and shuts down the spindle drive.. so here's my ghetto solution: a hand drill attached to a tool holder driving the spindle so the machine sees the sensor and will let me run the motor for test
